Daniel Rozensztroch, le directeur artistique de Merci (lire l’article ici) s’est confié à Marie-Claire Maison dans un très beau reportage sur son loft à Paris. Voici quelques propos recueillis:

« Après trente ans passés dans un appartement que j’adorais, j’avais envie d’un nouveau projet et d’un quartier où je pouvais tout faire à pied. C’est mon mode de vie qui a guidé mon choix. Je me suis fait un loft sur mesure. J’ai un très grand salon parce que je reçois beaucoup mais je n’ai pas de chambre d’ami ! Je voulais vivre comme à l’hôtel.

“Je me suis rendu compte que j’étais incapable de faire un tri. De passions en collections, je m’étais laissé dévorer par mes objets. Le chantier a pris du temps et pendant ces longs mois où j’ai joué les nomades de luxe en m’installant chez une amie, j’ai apprécié d’être dépouillé de tout ça. Quand les déménageurs ont aligné des dizaines de cartons dans mon salon, j’ai senti qu’il était temps de prendre un nouveau départ.”

“Disons que je me suis recadré sur mes goûts d’aujourd’hui. J’ai gardé mes plus beaux objets et les plus touchants, comme cette lampe Sabino, une des rares pièces héritées de mes parents, qui a séjourné des années dans ma cave avant de trouver sa place métalliques, on retrouve son goût pour le noir et blanc, mais aussi pour les objets d’usage. J’utilise au quotidien la verrerie XVIIIe que j’ai chinée depuis des années. Je ne vais pas les enfermer dans une vitrine, si j’en casse, et bien tant pis !”

“il m’arrive de me réveiller la nuit et d’aller déplacer un meuble ou un objet parce que j’ai rêvé qu’il irait mieux à tel ou tel endroit”

“Le plus important, c’est que je suis très heureux ici.”

Daniel Rozensztroch, artistic director at Merci’s (read the article here) speaking to Marie-Claire Maison in a beautiful reportage about his loft in Paris. Here are some collected remarks:

« After thirty years in an apartment I loved, I wanted a new project and a neighborhood where I could do everything on foot, it was my way of life that guided my choice. I made a custom loft,  I have a very large living room because I get a lot but I do not have a guest room! « I wanted to live like at the hotel.

 « I realized I could not sort it out. From passions to collections, I had allowed myself to be devoured by my objects. The job took time and during those long months when I played the nomads of luxury by settling down with a friend, I enjoyed being stripped of all that. When the movers lined tens of cartons in my living room, I felt it was time to take a fresh start. « 

« Let’s say I have reframed on my tastes today. I kept my most beautiful and touching objects, like this lamp Sabino, one of the rare pieces inherited from my parents, who stayed for years in my cellar before finding his metallic place, one finds his taste for black and White, but also for objects of use. I use everyday the eighteenth glassware that I have been chinning for years. I will not lock them in a showcase, if I break it, and so much the worse! « 

 « I sometimes wake up at night and move a piece of furniture or an object because I dreamed that it would be better at such and such a place »

 « The most important thing is that I am very happy here. »
