On dit souvent que l’on aimerait tout quitter pour partir vivre ailleurs et se sentir plus proche de la nature. Mais cet homme ne s’est pas contenté de simples paroles, et vit désormais… dans les arbres.

Foster Huntington avait devant lui une carrière prometteuse dans le monde de la mode. Pourtant, il y a 5 ans, il a décidé de quitter son emploi et de parcourir les États-Unis dans un van. Après avoir sillonné les routes du pays, impossible pour lui de retourner vivre en métropole. Le jeune homme de 27 ans préfère de loin chambouler son existence et la poursuivre autrement.

Avec l’aide de ses meilleurs amis, il passe donc un an à se construire un logement dans une vallée de la gorge du Columbia, à la frontière entre deux Etats américains, le Washington et l’Oregon. Ensemble, ils bâtissent deux maisons en bois perchées dans les arbres d’environ 20 mètres carrés chacune, ainsi qu’un pont pour les relier entres elles.

Baptisée « Cinder Cone » (un nom qui fait référence aux types de volcans les plus communs), cette cabane des temps modernes contient même un jacuzzi. La bande de copains a aussi installé à son pied un parc pour y faire du skateboard. « J’aurais pu acheter une maison. Mais cela est tellement mieux. Pour moi, c’est un rêve d’enfant qui se réalise », explique-t-il au New York Times.

L’ancien new-yorkais confie également au site Mother Nature Network: « Les gens pensent qu’il faut absolument habiter en ville, mais c’est faux. J’ai une connection Wi-Fi et un réseau Internet en 4G ici. […] Il suffit de se sentir inspiré par ce qu’il y a autour de vous ».

Aujourd’hui, il espère que son projet de vie pourra en inspirer d’autres. Voilà pourquoi il a publié un livre, « Home is where you park it » (« Votre maison est là où vous la garez »), dans lequel il explique comment il s’y est pris. Au programme: 135 pages de photos prises durant la construction, et de croquis explicatifs qu’il a dessiné lui-même.

Foster Huntington est un photographe indépendant qui partage son art sur ce site. On se doute que le cadre idyllique dans lequel il vit lui permet de prendre ses plus beaux clichés.

It is often said that we would leave everything to go live elsewhere and feel closer to nature. But this man was not content with mere words, and now lives … in the trees.

Foster Huntington had before him a promising career in the fashion world. Yet there 5 years ago, he decided to quit his job and go through the United States in a van. After traveling the country roads, impossible for him to return to live in the City. The young man of 27 years would much rather mess up his life and pursue otherwise.

With the help of his best friends, he spends a year to build a home in a valley of the Columbia Gorge on the border between two American states, Washington and Oregon. Together, they built two wooden houses perched in trees about 20 square meters each, and a bridge to connect them.

Dubbed « Cinder Cone » (a name that refers to the types of the most common volcanoes), the cabin of modern times even contains a jacuzzi. The group of friends also installed at its foot a park to skateboard. « I could buy a house. But this is so much better. For me this is a childhood dream come true, » he explained to the New York Times.

Former New Yorker also entrusts the website Mother Nature Network: « People think it is absolutely live in town, but it’s wrong I have a Wi-Fi connection and an Internet network in 4G here [.. …] Just to feel inspired by what’s around you.  »

Today he hopes his life project will inspire others. That is why he launched in June 2015 on Kickstarter fundraising to get out a book, « Home is Where You Park It » ( « Your home is where you park »), in which he explains how he is taken. On the program: 135 pages of photos taken during construction, and explanatory sketches he drew himself.

Huntington Foster is a freelance photographer who shares his art on this website. We suspect that the idyllic setting in which he lives allows him to take his best shots.
